So as you may know, there have been issues with the site. Among others, the worst offender being a crazy redirect from a Google search that took you kind people to the dreaded spyware 2009 virus. I guess I had finally had enough when I heard a co-worker tell another co-worker just how dangerous it was to visit my site (he really put the fear of god into her). I decided to call Leo - The Tech Guy to see if he had any advice. I was surprised to get through, and after about 50 minutes on hold he finally got to my call and I told him the whole gruesome tale. Well I guess I hit a nerve because after seeing the whole thing for himself he got all serious about it and said how horrible this was, in fact he was speechless for a couple seconds. This whole time though I’m thinking ‘wow, I’m talking to Leo and he is saying my name and plugging my website on his radio show’. It was awesome, and it was a nightmare. I was getting all of this publicity, but at the same time admitting that it was dangerous to Google me! In the end he suggested I call my hosting service (Ipower) and complain to them about the situation. As I listened to the rest of the show Leo repeatedly mentioned my plight, to the point where I thought he was getting obsessed. That was Saturday and to my credit I never got around to calling Ipower. I thought I would get to it some time during the week. Fast forward to Monday morning. I am driving to work, listening to TWIT like I do every Monday morning (can you tell I’m a huge fan). The show is moving along and I’m trying to stay awake on the road when I hear the conversation move somehow to worms and viruses. I can’t remember exactly how it happened, but I got the sinking feeling that Leo was about to tell the whole TWIT army that this idiot Joseph Orsillo has this website that will totally fuck your machine when you try to visit. Sure enough, Leo brought it up. He told the whole story. He said my full name and tried to say my URL. He never did get that right, he kept saying joseph orsillo dot com. Thats not a bad URL, why didn’t I think of that. I very nearly shit my pants. I have listened to every TWIT, Security Now, and Macbreak Weekly, and to have my issue discussed on the show was a real trip. Leo was actually very sympathetic to my plight, and it was just awesome to hear Dvorak talk about me. Well, I somehow made it to work and when I checked my email later that morning I saw I had a note from someone at Ipower support. As it turns out, Ryan at Ipower engineering support heard Leo describe my problem. He took it upon himself to figure out what was wrong (a hacked .htaccess file on my site - god damn you hackers!) and fixed it for me. Problem solved, just like that. Can you believe it? I think this just made my year. Thank you Ryan, and thank you Leo. You rock- very, very hard.
